June 16 Uprising Race

About Us

Honoring History, Inspiring Future Generations

The roots of our event lie in the historic events of the 1976 Soweto Students Uprisings. Fueled by the black consciousness movement and driven by a desire for change, thousands of students took to the streets to protest against the oppressive Bantu Education System. Their courage and resilience ignited a movement that reverberated across the country and eventually led to the downfall of apartheid.

Commemorating History: Our race isn’t just about running; it’s about retracing the steps of those who fought for freedom and justice. From the iconic Hector Pieterson Memorial to the former residences of Nobel Peace Prize winners Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu, our route is steeped in history and symbolism.

Our Mission:

We are committed to building a healthier and more informed community through running, heritage preservation, and promotion. By organizing this historic township race, we aim to inspire meaningful lifestyles and foster a diverse, equitable, and inclusive running community.

Project Partnerships:

We collaborate with various stakeholders to make our vision a reality. Through charity-driven initiatives, we seek to mobilize similar heritage preservation efforts across the country and create lasting benefits for local communities.
